Christian Authors Guild

Upcoming CAG Meeting

Monday, May 6th, @ 7:00 PM

Meeting location listed below.

Guest Speaker: J Steve Miller, PhD

Topic: “Writing and Publishing Tips for Low-Profile Authors.”

Steve Miller is an educator (teaches in the Interdisciplinary Studies Department at Kennesaw State University), researcher, entrepreneur, and speaker, having taught audiences from Atlanta to Moscow. He studied at Dalton State College, the University of Georgia, Columbia International University (BA), Trinity Divinity School, Southwestern Seminary (MDiv) and Columbia International University Graduate School (PhD). His current research/writing obsession is “afterlife apologetics”—deathbed experiences and near-death experiences. He’s known for drawing practical wisdom from serious research and communicating it in accessible, unforgettable ways. His wife, Cherie, and their sons continually challenge his thinking. Connect with him at http://www.jstevemiller.info

Published Books

Steve has been published by Tyndale House, Random House, and self-published through Wisdom Creek Press. He wrote: The Contemporary Christian Music Debate, Enjoy Your Money! How to Make It, Save It, Invest It and Give It, Richard Dawkins and His God Delusion, Sell More Books! (for low profile authors), Faith That’s Not Blind, Why Brilliant People Believe Nonsense, Near-Death Experiences As Evidence for the Existence of God and Heaven, Deathbed Experiences As Evidence for the Afterlife, Is Christianity Consistent with Deathbed and Near-Death Experiences?

About Me

I grew up in the north Georgia mountains, hiking, caving, water-skiing, snow skiing, and playing sports such as tennis and back-yard football and whiffle-ball with my neighborhood friends. Dalton was a great place to grow up and the Dalton school system was a great place to start my education.

Spiritual concerns and activities dominated my years from 16 years onward, as I attended three undergraduate schools and three graduate schools (see my CV for details), gathering the tools to help me get to the bottom of things, such as exegesis, hermeneutics, Greek, logic and research skills. Also I was introduced to many subjects relevant to my concerns, such as Philosophy, Apologetics, Psychology of Religion, Theology, Philosophy of Science, Biblical Studies and Church History.

After years of church work and even a stint training youth workers in Slovakia just after the fall of Communism, I began teaching at Kennesaw State University. I am now an Assistant Professor of Philosophy, teaching such courses as Introduction to Religion, Critical Thinking, Religion & Science, and Death & Dying.

I continue researching and writing because I have an irresistible compulsion to get to the bottom of important issues. And I have the personality and gifts that allow me to keep researching the same questions for years, with no loss of motivation, if that’s what it takes to reach a conclusion.

I’m also a long-term caregiver. Ever since my first wife, Laurene, was diagnosed with cancer, I’ve been caregiving for disabled or dying relatives for the past 25 years, which has been quite gratifying and meaningful.

After Laurene’s death, I married Cherie and we began the adventure of raising 7 boys in a blended family. It’s a great way to grow in wisdom and dependence upon God, but not so great a way to pursue a tranquil life. There’s never a dull moment!

Life has never been easy, but it’s been very rewarding!

  2. Gwendolyn Perry Honore

I sent a donation as requested for the Christian Authors Guild, with the intent on being contacted for membership but I haven’t heard from anyone concerning this.

  3. Hey friends, Mike had mentioned to me a few months back that Cynthia had taken over the group ( unless things have changed). It’s been a while since I really sat down and wrote what God gives me to write. I still desire to reach others through my devotions, in my sphere of influence, that might not otherwise see a need for God. Covid has changed a lot. I’m ready to try to get back into writing with purpose and learning from some of the best . C Doug Rogers

    1. Doug,
My apologies for not responding until now.

Yes, Cynthia is still with us and she will be our guest speaker for Monday, March 6th @ 7PM.
Yes, Covid did cause things to change but God is on the move.
It’s been quite hectic for me the past three weeks. I will be updating CAG’s website tonight.
Look forward to us getting together.

      God bless,
